Daily devotional 4/20DAILY DEVOTIONALTuesday, April 20The Limits of the Witness of MiraclesMatthew 9:27-34We have all heard the expression, “You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make him drink.” Sayings and clichés work because they all have a nugget of truth, backed up by a vivid mental picture of what it means. This one is certainly true. This story illustrates the point very solidly. Jesus was preaching, performing miracles, healing and even raising people from the dead. Many believed on His name, even some coming as somewhat of a surprise like Jairus who was mentioned earlier. In this passage, Jesus performed an astounding string of great works, and many marveled at it all. They understood that it had to be God in the flesh doing all of these things; they understood and believed that Jesus was the long-promised Messiah. Then, along came the Pharisees and Scribes again, with their doubts and accusations. This time they acknowledged that Jesus was doing great things but accused Him of doing it by the power of Satan. Their desperate desire to not believe was palpable. Desperate men say desperate things and do desperate things. They had been led right to edge of the Living Water and still refused to drink. These men did not fail to believe because of a lack of proof; they failed to believe because they did not want to, but wanted to keep living their prideful, self-righteous lives. Sadly, that is the same reason so many will not believe today.JUST A THOUGHT: Non-believers do not need miracles to bring them to belief today; their hardened hearts would not believe in those, either.Wally Fry#dailydevotional #encouragement #biblereading ...
